But for those that have the wiring, come on already. And the lack of whole home DVR when the boxes all have ethernet jacks is bonkers, though I can understand most houses don't have networking infrastructure in place, and MOCA is a nightmare to try to support. It's silly that even with their streaming-only packages, Spectrum is still capping total recordings by shows or by hours. The DVR capabilities are so much better than the Spectrum offering. Thankfully I've got family with a Comcast TV account so I'm able to authenticate the Ballys apps with my credentials on their account. I do miss the RSN access, as YTTV dropped the Ballys channels a couple years ago and all of my teams have their TV rights on those 2 channels. I can family share the service, which is nice for the kids when they're at their grandparents and want to watch TV. I went with YouTube TV since there's an app for every device I have, with no channel watching restrictions if I'm not at home. I dropped TV service after all promos ran out. Those are the ones they're more willing to provide discounts on. TV packages are not nearly as profitable to Spectrum as phone, mobile, and internet lines of service are. Front line billing reps can't do much beyond add lines of service and maybe a bundling price. I do wonder if people who complain about the costs are getting past the first billing rep they get on the phone through to an actual retentions agent- and whether they are making a case for the true alternatives they can switch to if they do not receive some level of retentions deal. But none of those have retentions departments to keep their customers quite like the cable and telcos. I can see from a road sign which gas station is charging less. I can cross shop Publix, Kroger, Wal-Mart, and Winn-Dixie for my groceries. Notwithstanding the hassle of moving, I can negotiate my lease- it's easier for my landlord to keep me, than to acquire a new tenant. Just my opinion.īut in all those cases, I have some level of choice. I've cut the cord before and it's not as cost effective as it was before. I've worked for Directv and Comcast before moving to TX and I understand this than most. That's going to be required from distributors and that's going to increase costs. YouTube TV didn't always grant access to some of those because they weren't negotiated in. Someone mentioned the stand-alone app access when using their cable company credentials. New channels are "added" into higher prices for the companies and those eventually get passed on to customers. For example, ESPN is $7-$8 per customer and is required to be in the basic tier and it doesn't include the other ESPN channels that are usually on a company's "sport" tier for an additional cost. What people don't realize is that those channels pay cable and satellite companies for air time and it does help offset some of the higher costs from program distributors. People complain about the "extra" channels like shopping channels. Right now I'm getting the Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ package for free with our Verizon mobile plan that doesn't include the Hulu with Live TV.Ĭord-cutting is not what it was at the beginning. I tried YouTube TV for 2 years and had 3 different price and channel changes the last being a lowered price because loss of some RSNs and channel packages. We've gone back to Spectrum for our TV service.
